How Mobile Friendly is Your Site?

Mobile Friendly or Hostile?

It may seem that you’ve spent a ton of time on improving the design, functionality and user experience of your website. Then someone asks you if your site is mobile friendly. Wait, what?

Chances are the platform you chose for your website includes that functionality, but it’s important to understand the function of mobile responsiveness and how it impacts your business.

When we think of “Responsive Design”, we typically jump straight to the obvious,  your site is able to adapt to whatever device a visitor is viewing your site on. Although that’s true, there is a lot more to it!

Consider User Experience

Statista reported that as of August of 2017, there were more than 3.5 billion unique mobile internet users. And, NetMarketShare reports that Google drives more than 70% of the mobile search traffic. All of those users searching heavily on one platform leads to the question, what kind of impression do I make when someone clicks my link in mobile search results?

Not mobile responsive vs mobile responsive
User experience can be interpreted in many ways, but the truth is that how your visitors interpret their user experience on your site is really the only thing that matters. Some of the things that could be big this year for succeeding in the mobile user experience efforts are:

Simplifying the User Journey – Ever been in a Starbucks when all you really wanted was a small black coffee? It can be overwhelming. Help your visitor find what they are looking for quickly, and make the purchase, download, click to call (however you want to connect) as easy as possible.

Reducing the Noise – While content is still king (and it doesn’t look like he is stepping down anytime soon) mobile visitors have a goal in mind. Reading the king’s diary is probably not one of them. Reduce the noise by prioritizing relevant information and putting that content first and playing more on visual cues.

Using Video to Your Advantage – Video continues to be on the rise among the digitally inclined. Expect to see this trend continue and work to position yourself to take advantage by developing a strategy for incorporating videos into your marketing efforts. Not just for desktop, but for mobile as well.

This year is going to be an exciting year for businesses to test new marketing tactics. Working with your web developer on trends like these could reveal new insights on better ways to attract your target audience.
